Starting a business in Texas: what grant money exists
Most grant money goes to businesses that already exist. The SBA says it plainly: it "does not provide grants for starting and expanding a business." New owners usually start with savings, a loan, or a narrow grant built for one kind of business.
The state's own start-a-business guide lists savings, friends and family, bank and micro loans, SBA loans and crowdfunding as the ways to fund a new business. The narrow exception on this page: Texas FCCN Start-Up Mini-Grants, up to $15,000 for people opening a registered or licensed family child care home.

Most Texas state grants pay for one purpose, like cleaner trucks and equipment, film production, semiconductors, or worker training, not general cash for any business.
Is there a grant to start a business in Texas?
Rarely. Texas points new owners to savings, loans and SBA loans. One exception: Texas FCCN Start-Up Mini-Grants pay up to $15,000 to open a family child care home. For a new business, Texas's Small Business Development Centers offer no-cost advising, including help finding funding.
Are there city or county business grants in Texas?
